Overview
Denza is the premium technology brand of the BYD Group, and the Z9 GT is the car leading its launch into Europe. It went on sale in China in September 2024, made its European debut at Milan's Brera Design Week in April 2025 and is now priced in the UK from £105,000. It is a long, low shooting brake built to cross continents quickly.
The hardware
Three motors drive all four wheels: one at the front and one for each rear wheel. Denza quotes 1,156 PS and 1,210 Nm, 0–62 mph in 2.7 seconds and a top speed of 167 mph. A 122 kWh BYD Blade battery gives up to 373 miles of range. These are manufacturer figures, not VOLT-AGE test results. A Super Hybrid DM version is also offered.
Nine-minute charging
The Z9 GT is the first BYD Group model to bring FLASH Charging to the UK. At up to 1,500 kW it can charge from 10 to 70 per cent in five minutes and from 10 to 97 per cent in nine minutes, which Denza says is the equivalent of adding 323 miles of WLTP range.
It moves sideways
The car is built on Denza's e³ platform. Independent rear motors and rear-wheel steering give it a turning circle of just 4.62 metres, and they let it crab walk sideways and turn through 360 degrees on the spot. Battery cells are built into the body structure for extra stiffness.
Why it matters
The Z9 GT shows Chinese performance EVs arriving in UK showrooms, not only as imports. It lines up against cars like the Porsche Taycan Sport Turismo with more power on paper, a bigger battery and manoeuvres you won't find on a Porsche, and it belongs in this directory as the start of that challenge.
