Overview
The Model 3 Performance is the most powerful Model 3 Tesla has built. Revealed in April 2024 as part of the refreshed Model 3 range, it takes a car many people already drive every day and gives it a far sharper edge.
The hardware
It is still a dual-motor, all-wheel-drive saloon, but a new Performance rear drive unit raises output well beyond the previous Performance model. UK launch figures quote 0–62 mph in 3.1 seconds, a top speed of 163 mph and a WLTP range of 328 miles. It went on sale in the UK from £59,990.
Built to be driven
Adaptive Damping is a first for Model 3 and unique to the Performance. Controlled by Tesla's own software, it adjusts to the driver and the road in real time, with Standard and Sport settings for the road and a dedicated calibration for Track Mode. Specially developed 20-inch tyres, sports seats, a carbon-fibre spoiler and revised bumpers complete the package.
Why it matters
Plenty of cars in this directory are rare, expensive or still concepts. The Model 3 Performance is the opposite: a performance EV you can see in a supermarket car park. That makes it one of the cars that has done most to bring electric speed to everyday drivers.
The Sonic connection
Our project car, Sonic, is a Model 3 too, but not a Performance. Sonic is a modified 2021 Model 3 Long Range AWD with Acceleration Boost. Follow its story on The VOLT-AGE Project.
