BMW i5 M60 Touring

The i5 M60 xDrive Touring is the top of BMW's electric i5 Touring range and part of the first 5 Series Touring line-up to be offered with fully electric power. It arrived in the UK in 2024. It is a fast estate in the great tradition, built for the long way home with the dog and the bikes in the back.

The hardware

Two motors, one on each axle, drive all four wheels through BMW's electric xDrive. Peak output is 601 hp (442 kW), with up to 820 Nm using M Sport Boost or M Launch Control. BMW quotes 0–62 mph in 3.9 seconds and an electronically limited top speed of 143 mph. An 81.2 kWh usable battery gives a WLTP range of 285 to 321 miles. These are manufacturer figures, not VOLT-AGE test results.

Space without compromise

BMW designed every 5 Series Touring to have the same luggage space whatever powers it, so the electric M60 gives up nothing to its petrol and hybrid siblings. The boot holds 570 litres with all five seats in use and up to 1,700 litres with the rear seats folded, with a 40:20:40 split rear seat.

M without the badge

The M60 sits in BMW's M Performance line, between the regular i5 models and the full M cars. BMW says the Touring offers the performance and driving dynamics of the M60 saloon with the versatility of an estate. The motors and battery use BMW's fifth-generation eDrive technology.

Why it matters

Fast estates have a cult following in the UK, and the i5 M60 Touring carries that idea into the electric era. It belongs in this directory as proof that electric performance can be practical, and as a premium alternative to the Denza Z9 GT shooting brake.
